Setting up Discord Linked Roles

Linked Roles are a Discord feature. You set the requirements, and members who meet them claim the role themselves. Discord checks the numbers against The Bayou Ledger and enforces the result.

This is set up entirely inside Discord, and it is free - no subscription needed on either side.

Nothing stops you from using both in the same server.

Before you start

  • Your members must each link their Discord account. A member who hasn't linked simply can't qualify.
  • You need the Manage Roles permission in the server.

The easiest way to ask your members to connect Discord and The Bayou Ledger is to post this link in your server:

That one page handles the whole thing on its own - it signs a hunter in with Steam if they aren't already, sends them to Discord to connect, and brings them back to a confirmation. Nobody has to go hunting through their account settings.

Create the role

Requirements can only be added to a role that has no members, so start with a fresh one.

  1. Open Server Settings → Roles.
  2. Press Create Role and give it a name, e.g. 6 stars.
  3. Open the new role and switch to the Links tab.

Add the requirement

  1. Press Add requirement.
  2. In the Add Connection window, look under Apps and pick The Bayou Ledger.

  1. Turn on the stats you want to gate on and type a value for each.

  1. If you added more than one, choose Must connect all (every requirement has to pass) or Must connect at least one.
  2. Press Save Changes.

Members can now claim the role from the server's Channels & Roles section.

The four stats

Every Linked Role requirement is a minimum - Discord reads it as "at least this much".

  • MMR - the in-game MMR number. See the star table below.
  • KDA x100 - the KDA ratio multiplied by 100. A 1.50 KDA is 150 here. This trips people up, so double-check it.
  • Prestige - the prestige level.
  • Lifetime bounty - total bounty earned.

MMR and stars

Hunt shows stars, not the raw number, so use this table when you want a role to mean "5 stars and up". The value is the lowest MMR in each band:

So a 6-star role wants an MMR requirement of 2959.

Good to know

  • Discord decides, we only supply the numbers. If a member's stats no longer meet the requirement, Discord stops offering the role - but it does not take an already-claimed role away. If you want roles removed automatically as stats change, use automatic roles.
  • Hidden profiles can't qualify. A hunter who hides their profile in Hunt has no stats to check.
  • Renaming the role is fine. The requirement is attached to the role, not its name.
