Archetypes

Playstyles

Every tracked hunter gets a playstyle - a nickname picked on the basis of their record. Every archetype there is gets listed here: what each one is made of, and what the signals behind them actually measure.

Keep in mind that an archetype is more of a joke than a seriously computed playstyle - it will not tell you anything definitive about how you actually play.

What The Ledger watches

Every archetype is worked out from a set of signals measured on a hunter's lifetime record. Each signal says how far ahead of every other tracked hunter you are. For example, if the PvP focus axis reads at its maximum, that number of yours is higher than most tracked hunters'.

  • PvP focus

Other hunters killed, averaged over every match in The Ledger.

Runs highMost trips out end with other hunters down - this one goes looking for people.

Runs lowOther hunters rarely fall to this one. The fight is not what they came for.

  • Wipe aggro

How much of that killing came from an entire opposing squad going down together.

Runs highWhen the shooting starts the whole opposing squad tends to go down, not just one of them.

Runs lowKills land one at a time - a trade here, a pick there - rather than a squad falling all at once.

  • Support

How much of this hunter's contribution is assists rather than kills of their own.

Runs highDoes a lot of the damage somebody else finishes. The squad wins on this one's setup.

Runs lowFinishes what they start - the credit lands here rather than on a teammate.

  • Risk appetite

Deaths at the hands of other hunters, averaged over every match in The Ledger.

Runs highDies to other hunters often, because this one keeps walking into the places worth dying in.

Runs lowRarely falls to another hunter - picks fights that might not be walked away from.

  • Objective

The contract boss put down, averaged over every match in The Ledger.

Runs highMost trips out end with the contract boss dead. This one came for the job.

Runs lowThe boss usually stays somebody else's problem - this one is out there for other reasons.

  • Greedy

How often leaving the map meant carrying more than a single bounty home.

Runs highWalks out carrying more than one bounty more often than not - takes the whole table, not a share.

Runs lowTakes one and goes - no hanging around the map for a second payday.

  • Clue scout

Clues worked through, counted against each boss this hunter put down.

Runs highWorks through the clues, but the boss often stays somebody else's business.

Runs lowFollows the clues straight to the boss and lets nothing else distract them.

The seven kinds

Every playstyle belongs to one of these. The badge on each entry below says which.

Every playstyle

Most-worn first, counted across every hunter The Ledger has a playstyle for.

  1. Command

    1,711 hunters · 5.81%

    Shield arm first, hunter second

Wants exactly one thing from a contract: the whole squad walking home. Stands between teammates and trouble the whole way through, keeps everyone breathing through the worst of it, and lets the prize, the boss, and the bragging all go to whoever needs them more.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • PvP focus runs low
    • Wipe aggro runs low
    • Support runs high
    • Objective runs low
  2. Trail

    1,241 hunters · 4.21%

    Lives on the clue trail

The trail itself is the appeal. Clues fall fast and keep falling, the boss gets dragged into daylight ahead of anybody's schedule, and whether the rest of the lobby makes anything of the favor is, frankly, their own business.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • Clue scout runs high

Given when this is the only signal that stands out. A hunter with a second standout lands on a more specific playstyle.

  3. Trail

    1,205 hunters · 4.09%

Roams for the trail's own sake

Out here for the walking, not the work. The trail gives up its clues to whoever keeps it company, and this hunter keeps it long company - while the bosses, the bounties, and the gunfire all belong to people in more of a hurry.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • PvP focus runs low
    • Risk appetite runs low
    • Objective runs low
    • Clue scout runs high
  4. Combat

    1,147 hunters · 3.90%

    Answers to nobody, fights anybody

Tore up the contract a long while back and kept the gun. Rides alone, answers to nothing, takes a fight at whatever size it arrives - one hunter or a whole squad, it makes no difference - and leaves the bounty to those who still believe in paydays.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • Support runs low
    • Objective runs low
    • Greedy runs low
  5. Command

    1,083 hunters · 3.68%

Eyes on the dark, squad sleeping sound

Somebody has to stand the late watch, and the camp rests easier when it's this hunter. Trouble gets read in the ground long before it arrives, teammates are steadied through whatever the night sends, and morning comes without a shot wasted - which was the whole idea.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • Wipe aggro runs low
    • Support runs high
    • Objective runs low
    • Clue scout runs high
  6. Restraint

    1,016 hunters · 3.45%

Rides out light and lives to ride again

The exit is a habit, not a payday. He travels lean, in fast and out faster, leaving the heavy bag to hunters with more patience - because for him the win is the ride home, and a full bag was only ever extra weight on the saddle.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • Greedy runs low

Only handed out when no other playstyle fits.

  7. Command

    1,007 hunters · 3.42%

    Keeps the whole squad standing

The reason the squad walks out instead of crawling. Pushes get patched mid-fight, the fallen get pulled back onto their feet, and when the story gets told at the end of the night, this hunter's name is somehow in none of it and behind all of it.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • PvP focus runs low
    • Wipe aggro runs low
    • Support runs high
  8. Restraint

    976 hunters · 3.31%

The contract can wait, the ride can't

He turns up, hunts, and moves on. The boss stays somebody else's business while he takes what the night offers on the way through - a fight here, a find there - the way some men ride past every courthouse in the territory without once dismounting.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • Objective runs low

Only handed out when no other playstyle fits.

  9. Restraint

    945 hunters · 3.21%

A calm hand among the wildlife

Out in the deep brush by preference, where the shambling dead and the wild things keep a hunter honest. There's plenty in these parts that needs killing without it ever being people - and the gun stays busy enough, far from anybody else's quarrel.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • PvP focus runs low
    • Wipe aggro runs low
    • Risk appetite runs low
  10. Restraint

    860 hunters · 2.92%

    Comes and goes unseen

A rumor with boots. Present on every count and seen on none, fights left to run their course and contracts left to other hands - the kind of hunter people only hear about afterward, secondhand, and even then nobody can swear to a face.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • PvP focus runs low
    • Risk appetite runs low
    • Objective runs low
  11. Restraint

    842 hunters · 2.86%

Hunts by nobody's rules but his own

Works the bayou at a self-set pace and along a self-set trail, asking nobody's leave. Other people's firefights, other people's bosses, other people's squads - all of it left to one side by choice, not by nerve. Every trip ends the way it ran: calm, unhurried, and entirely on this hunter's own terms.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • Support runs low
    • Risk appetite runs low
    • Objective runs low
  12. Contract

    721 hunters · 2.45%

Keeps the house and the strongbox

Runs a hunt like a well-kept estate. The squad is provided for through every rough stretch, the boss is dealt with on schedule, and the take is locked away before anyone thinks to count it - while strangers on the road are left to their own journeys.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • PvP focus runs low
    • Support runs high
    • Objective runs high
    • Greedy runs high
  13. Combat

    618 hunters · 2.10%

Wins the fight, the boss, and the payout

Every so often the swamp meets a hunter it should be afraid of. The fights end quick and one-sided on the way in, the boss goes from found to finished in a single visit, and the ride home sits heavy with everything a contract can pay.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • PvP focus runs high
    • Objective runs high
    • Greedy runs high
  14. Command

    559 hunters · 1.90%

Starts the fight the squad finishes

First contact always belongs to this hunter: the opening shot, the called angle, the moment a fight tips over. The squad collapses in on the signal and whole teams go down at once - even when the killing blow lands, every time, in somebody else's hands.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • Wipe aggro runs high
    • Support runs high
  15. Combat

    538 hunters · 1.83%

    Rides an unbranded road

Carries no brand and answers to no outfit. No company kept, no dog in the bigger brawls, no eye on the loot - just a line of this hunter's own choosing through every contract, and when it happens to pass the boss, the boss stops being anybody's problem.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • PvP focus runs high
    • Wipe aggro runs low
    • Support runs low
    • Greedy runs low
  16. Combat

    515 hunters · 1.75%

The gun is the whole story

Greed moves some hunters and glory moves others; this one just likes the draw. Other hunters are the entire contract as far as that iron is concerned - the shooting starts quick, ends quicker, and everything else on the map is scenery between fights.

    Signals for this playstyle

  17. Command

    507 hunters · 1.72%

Sets up kills for other hands

The softening shot, the held angle, the mark called out a breath before it matters. Everything that makes a kill look easy happens here first, and the finishing flourish gets donated - night after night - to hands that get to feel like heroes for it.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • Support runs high
    • Risk appetite runs low
  18. Combat

    487 hunters · 1.65%

The duel is the whole point

Picks fights the old way: one against one, ten paces of honesty, nobody stepping in and no purse worth mentioning. The squadmates ride along and know better than to interfere - some hunters are out here for the money, and some are settling older scores.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • Wipe aggro runs low
    • Risk appetite runs high
    • Objective runs low
    • Greedy runs low
  19. Command

    478 hunters · 1.62%

Guides the flock down the trail

Walks ahead to read the ground, then doubles back for stragglers. The squad always knows where the trail bends and always arrives whole - and hardly ever catches sight of the quiet work that got them there, which is exactly how this hunter prefers it.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • PvP focus runs low
    • Support runs high
    • Clue scout runs high
  20. Trail

    465 hunters · 1.58%

    Turns intel into clean wipes

Treats the clues like dispatches from the enemy's own camp. Knows where the other squads will stand before they've decided it themselves, sets the team down braced and waiting, and the wipe, when it comes, runs like clockwork wound an hour in advance.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • Wipe aggro runs high
    • Clue scout runs high
  21. Combat

    462 hunters · 1.57%

Takes everything a contract has to give

There are runs the rest of a lobby remembers as a bad night, and this is who was having a good one. Hunters fall, whole squads follow, the boss goes down between them, and the bag leaves full - a harvest from the first shot to the last.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • PvP focus runs high
    • Wipe aggro runs high
    • Objective runs high
    • Greedy runs high
  22. Combat

    455 hunters · 1.55%

    Hunter kills outrun everything else

One line of the ledger towers over all the rest: the gunfights with other hunters. The trail, the boss, the take - all of it is just what happened on the walk between fights, and none of it gets told around the fire half as often.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • PvP focus runs high
    • Risk appetite runs high
  23. Combat

    443 hunters · 1.50%

Quiet kills, full pockets, gone by dawn

Solo work, done softly. One shot where nobody's looking, whatever's worth carrying lifted on the way past, and a cold trail before anyone thinks to follow it - the swamp keeps its secrets, and this hunter is one of them.

    • Wipe aggro runs low
    • Support runs low
    • Objective runs low
  24. Contract

    442 hunters · 1.50%

Tends the contract and the squad

Half parson, half partner. The boss is handled with the quiet ceremony of a weekday funeral, the squad gets lifted through every fight like a congregation through hard times, and passing hunters get no sermon at all - just the courtesy of being left to their own sins.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • PvP focus runs low
    • Support runs high
    • Objective runs high
  25. Spoils

    436 hunters · 1.48%

    Arrives late and leaves rich

A patient dealer of the dust-settled hour. The shooting gets to sort itself out somewhere over there, at other people's expense, and then this hunter slips in and collects the heavy bag the whole argument was about - business concluded, and not a drop of blood paid for it.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • PvP focus runs low
    • Risk appetite runs low
    • Greedy runs high
  26. Contract

    430 hunters · 1.46%

Closes contracts on a steady tick

Bosses stop being bosses around this hunter, reliably and without much ceremony. Good fights or thin loot, the job itself gets done - the contract was signed to be closed, and closing it is the one habit that never slips.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • Objective runs high

Given when this is the only signal that stands out. A hunter with a second standout lands on a more specific playstyle.

  27. Command

    419 hunters · 1.42%

Provisions the hunt, skips the war

Every expedition that comes home whole was fitted out by somebody like this. The trail gets marked ahead, the squad finds its footing already prepared, and the takings come back packed proper - while other people's shooting wars stay other people's business.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • PvP focus runs low
    • Support runs high
    • Greedy runs high
    • Clue scout runs high
  28. Restraint

    412 hunters · 1.40%

Stakes his own claim, works it alone

What he brings home he dug out himself. The squad may run close by, but his tally is his own - kills made with his own barrel and ground covered on his own boots, the whole night worked like a claim registered under one name.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • Support runs low

Only handed out when no other playstyle fits.

  29. Spoils

    410 hunters · 1.39%

    Walks out heavy, owes nobody

The bag and the hunter both travel alone, and that's the entire arrangement. No split, no escort, no goodbyes - just a quiet route to the exit with everything worth taking already taken, and the nerve to wait out anybody who'd contest the claim.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • Support runs low
    • Risk appetite runs low
    • Greedy runs high
  30. Command

    407 hunters · 1.38%

Holds the squad to the job

The steady weight that keeps a hunt from drifting off course. Targets come apart for the gunners to finish, the squad stays pointed at the work through every distraction, and the boss goes down in the end because one hunter never once looked away from it.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • Support runs high
    • Objective runs high
  31. Contract

    400 hunters · 1.36%

Settles the contract, splits the take

Keeps the squad's accounts the way a mining office keeps wages - quietly, until they come due. Other hunters get no trouble unless they come for the boss; then the books balance all at once, and every name in the party draws full pay at the exit.

  32. Contract

    388 hunters · 1.32%

Finishes the job, breaks the chase

There's a kind of hunter who treats a contract like a debt - paid in full, on time, no excuses. The boss goes down on schedule, the squads that come running for the prize get folded into the price, and both bounties make the exit.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • Wipe aggro runs high
    • Objective runs high
    • Greedy runs high
  33. Combat

    388 hunters · 1.32%

Kills and closes with no one's help

The kind of name that ends up on posters with a number under it. Hunters drop on the ride in, the boss gets handled alone with nobody around to tell it different, and not one coin of the bounty is owed to another living soul.

    Signals for this playstyle

    • Support runs low
    • Objective runs high
  34. Restraint

    342 hunters · 1.16%

Trades shots, then lets the squad walk

Plenty of powder burned and plenty of lead traded, yet the squads he meets mostly ride home lighter, not gone. He hits, fades, and reloads on the move, breaking off the exchange the moment it stops favouring him and carrying the fight to the next tree line.

    Signals for this playstyle

  35. Combat

    328 hunters · 1.11%

Reads the trail to find people

Works the contract's clues the way a tracker works sign - every one tells where the other hunters have been and where they're headed. The boss can keep; somewhere out there is a route with somebody at the end of it, and that's the real quarry.

    296 hunters · 1.01%

Scouts first, then one clean shot

Walks the clues to learn the lay of the land and settles on the single lane worth watching. What finally leaves the barrel is all that was ever needed - the rifle goes quiet again, because in this trade a second bullet is just an apology for the one before it.

  37. Combat

    266 hunters · 0.90%

One quiet shot at a time

  38. Combat

    263 hunters · 0.89%

Runs hunters to ground in packs

Hunts the way the old lodges did - patient on the sign, then loosed all at once. A squad's tracks read as plain as a confession, the chase ends with the whole party accounted for, and the boss keeps for somebody with plainer tastes.

Whole squads fall to one hunter

Walks into three-against-one like the arithmetic reads the other way. Entire teams fall inside a single visit, the assist sheet stays clean and blank, and folks keep rediscovering that outnumbered, around here, is mostly a question of who's counting.

Finds the night's work without the trail

Lone hands, deep graves, heavy pockets

Some work is best done with nobody else holding the lantern. The boss goes under on the first try, the squads that come visiting get plots of their own, and the pay walks out heavy - one set of footprints in, the same set out.

One bounty, one exit, no ceremony

Knows exactly what the trip is for and exactly how it ends. The boss handled, one bounty pocketed, and boots already pointed at the exit while the lobby is still organizing its ambush - greed has buried more hunters than the monsters ever did.

    All in on the gunfight

Came to trade lead with other hunters and calls that a full evening. The kills stack up all night while the boss waits, unbothered, for somebody with different priorities - the contract money was never really the point of the trip.

The whole bounty trade under one hat

Some hunters work a contract; this one owns the county it sits in. The trail gets read personally, the boss falls on schedule, callers are settled like bad debts, and the whole crew rides home paid - every part of the business answering to one name.

Wipes the table, takes the pot

Sweeps a fight to the very last name, then collects whatever the fallen were carrying. The loot was always going to leave the map with somebody - it just leaves in different hands than planned, with the table wiped and the pot gone before the echo settles.

Solo raider with a heavy bag
